About

Amy E. Potter is a doctoral candidate in Geography at Louisiana State University. She received her B.S. (University of Kansas) in Journalism and her M.A. (University of Kansas) in Geography.  Most recently her research on newspaper place-based representation of Haiti entitled “Voodoo, Zombies, and Mermaids: U.S. Newspaper Coverage of Haiti in 2004” was published in the Geographical Review in April 2009.  Amy has also conducted research in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans while also taking part in service learning there.  She hopes to publish her findings on community rebuilding within the coming year. Her primary research centers on the Caribbean, and under her advisor Dr. Andrew Sluyter, she is writing a dissertation on the intricate connections between transnational migration and land tenure on the island of Barbuda.
